In this section, you will find resources, documents and links to help you make informed decisions about French residency. This includes the official UK and French government guidance.
The deadline for applying for a new residence status was 30 June 2021.

From 4 October 2021, you can still apply at your local prefecture if you have reasonable grounds for missing the deadline and you will need to provide evidence of this. Your close family members continue to be able to join you and settle in France at any point in the future - see our 'Find help' section for more details.
Now that the UK has left the EU, if you are British living in France by the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020, a new residency permit is needed in order to protect your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement. A residency permit is required even if you already have an existing EU carte de séjour, or are married or PACSed to a French person.
If your non-EU family members and dependents are joining you in France they will also need to apply for a Withdrawal Agreement residency permit via your prefecture. See our Find help section for more information.
Key dates:
19 October 2020 ➡ Online residency permit system opened
31 December 2020 ➡ Transition period ends - must be resident in France by this point
30 June 2021 ➡ Last day for residency applications*
04 October 2021 ➡ Late applications deadline
* You need to be in possession of your new residency permit from 1 January 2022.
(UPDATE 28 SEPT 21) This date has recently been extended by the French government by decree.
